With Memorial Day on the way, everyone is looking forward to summer kickoff cook-outs.
Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and a day of rememberence for those who have died in our nation’s service. In today’s society, most of us know someone who has been in the military. This is a day where we take a moment to thank all of our soldiers who have given themselves for our country.
Not only do we think of Memorial Day for parades, but also for back yard barbeques. Did you know that grill fires result in almost 8,000 home fires annually, and you need to make sure you’re protected with your homeowners insurance. Memorial Day is a good day to consider your home insurance policy to make sure that you are properly covered.
In addition, here are some grilling tips to help prevent fires and having a claim on your homeowners policy.
- Remember to dispose of your charcoal properly.
- Have your grill in a safe spot and not in the garage. Its a good idea to have at least 10 feet from any structure and have fire extinguisher handy.
